PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata), a unit of Axiata Group, is seeking new funds to refinance its debt
of IDR1.7trn (RM500m) in the second half of this year. Kontan, a local Indonesia finance and
business newspaper, quoted XL Axiata finance director Mohadmed Adlan as saying after he

quoted as saying there were some discussions with interest parties. (Financial Daily)
UMW Oil & Gas Corp: May buy more jack-up rigs to tap demand
UMW Oil & Gas Corp (UMWOG) may buy more jack-up rigs to tap rising demand as it bids for
USD1.1bn (RM3.59bn) worth of contracts in South-East Asia this year. The company has four
drilling rigs, which would be doubled to eight by 2015, president Rohaizad Darus said in a
Bloomberg interview. It expected delivery of its fifth as early as next week, he said. UMWOG
is seeking to tap a surge in orders spurred by countries in South East-Asia looking to develop
domestic marginal oilfields which were once considered commercially unattractive. “There is
still some more room for growth,” Rohaizad said. “We would only buy if a great opportunity
presents itself.” (StarBiz)
SP Setia: Confirms Liew transferred 67.79m shares to PNB
SP Setia has confirmed its former president and CEO Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin had disposed of his

shares, representing a 2.75% stake, to Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) on Tuesday. The
transfer of the shares at RM3.95 each was pursuant to the exercise of three sevenths of the
SP Setia shares under the put option in the management agreement dated Jan 20, 2012.

DRB-Hicom: Proton eyes China production
Proton Holdings Bhd is looking at manufacturing cars in China, riding on the success and
future growth of the Lotus marque in the region, says former Prime Minister Tun Dr
Mahathir Mohamad. Dr Mahathir, who is a Proton adviser, said the company is looking at
partnerships in China to start producing the cars soon. Proton has been in China since 2007,
under a strategic partnership with Youngman Automobile Group, where it receives royalties
from the Chinese company in exchange for the usage of its engines. Proton, a wholly-owned
subsidiary of DRB-Hicom, owns 100% of Norfolk-based Group Lotus Plc which sold about 150
cars last year in China. (Business Times)

Tycoon Tan Sri Quek Leng Chan and Paul Poh Yang Hong, via their private vehicles Caprice

provider plans to use proceeds raised from the proposed share issuance to buy one unit of
offshore support vessel and/or for working capital (RM61.7m), to repay bank borrowings
(RM95.08m) and expenses related to the exercise (RM3.8m). (Financial Daily)

Cypark Resources: Chua Ma Yu’s son emerges as substantial shareholder
Tan Sri Chua Ma Yu’s son, Chua Sai Men, has emerged as a substantial shareholder of Cypark
Resources. A filing with Bursa Malaysia showed that Sai Men, 27, had on the same day
acquired 9.21m shares in Cypark in the open market, equivalent to a 5.1% equity interest in
the company. The purchase came amid renewed investors’ interest in Cypark, which saw its
share price having shot up 71% in the past year. According to Cypark’s 2013 financial year
end annual report, Sai Men owned about 4.84m shares or a 2.68% stake. However it is not
known when he had sold off this stake because the filing with Bursa indicated that his total
holding of 9.21m shares came solely from yesterday’s purchase. (Financial Daily)
Barakah Offshore Petroleum: Wins RM260m contract from PetGas

financial impact on the earnings, net assets and gearing of BKCB for the financial year ending
March 31, 2015. (Financial Daily)
Utilities: Water players have until end of this week to accept Selangor’s offer
Selangor’s four water concessionaires have until the end of this week to decide whether to
accept the state government’s offer of RM9.65bn to stake over their assets which was
extended by the federal government, said Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim. An
earlier offer by the statement government to the water concessionaires expired on March
10, which saw three of the four rejecting the offer. Following this, Energy, Green Technology
and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili had stepped in to give more time for
Selangor and the water concessionaires to reach amicable terms before the federal
government moves to invoke Section 114 of the Water Services Industry Act 2006 (WASIA);
which gives them the right to assume control of the water productions and management in a
state. Khalid said the concessionaires have another “two to three days left” to make up their
minds as both the federal and state governments are currently putting down on paper the
terms and conditions for implementation of the Act. (Financial Daily)
Media: MAA: Adex to grow by up to 9%
The Malaysian Advertisers Association (MAA) expects the advertising expenditure (adex) to
grow at a steady pace of between 5% and 9% this year. MAA’s newly-appointed president
Margaret Au-Yong said this is in line with the country’s gross domestic product projected
growth of between 5% and 5.5% this year. “Although the advertising activity is seen to grow
at a slightly slower pace this year as the advertisers were more cautious on their ad
spending, the adex growth is seen to be very healthy,” she said. Speaking after the MAA’s
annual general meeting yesterday, Au-Yong said that digital and social media is also expected
to benefit from the adex growth this year. (Business Times)

GLOBAL NEWS
US: Housing rebound losing steam as prices rise
The housing recovery in the US is running out of steam as buyers balk at record prices and
higher mortgage rates that are making properties less affordable. Sales dropped a surprising
14.5% to a 384,000 annualized pace, lower than any forecast of economists surveyed by
Bloomberg and the weakest since July, Commerce Department data showed today in
Washington. Three of the four regions saw setbacks, with demand in the West slumping to
the lowest level in more than two years. (Bloomberg)
US: Factory activity expands in April, pace stalls
The US manufacturing sector expanded in April though the rate of growth was slightly lower
than expected as inventories fell, but factory output growth hit its fastest pace in three
years, an industry report showed on Wednesday. Financial data firm Markit said its
preliminary or "flash" U.S. Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index dipped to 55.4 in April
from 55.5 in March. Economists polled by Reuters expected a reading of 56.0. (Reuters)
EU: Factory surveys rise as price weakness persists
Euro-area services and manufacturing expanded faster than economists forecast in April,
indicating the economy continued to strengthen at the start of the second quarter. A
composite index based on a survey of purchasing managers in both industries rose to 54 in
April from 53.1 in March, London-based Markit Economics said today. That exceeded the
median estimate of 53.0 in a Bloomberg News survey of economists and was the highest
reading in almost three years. A reading above 50 indicates expansion. (Bloomberg)
China: Factory activity shrinks for fourth month
China's factory activity shrank for the fourth straight month in April, signaling economic
weakness into the second quarter, a preliminary survey showed on Wednesday, although the
pace of decline eased helped by policy steps to arrest the slowdown. The HSBC/Markit flash
Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) for April rose to 48.3 from March's final reading of 48.0,
but was still below the 50 line separating expansion from contraction.
Japan: Kuroda says Bank of Japan won’t take on debt-servicing role
Governor Haruhiko Kuroda said the Bank of Japan won’t buy bonds just to keep down
government debt-servicing costs after it achieves stable 2% inflation. “If we reach our target
and prices are stable, we have no intention of moving away from our goal and implementing
policy to reduce debt servicing costs,” Kuroda said in parliament today in response to a
question from opposition lawmaker and former Economy Minister Seiji Maehara, who said
“the BOJ could be smacked around and told to do something” if yields rise. (Bloomberg)
Thailand: Central bank refrains from rate cut as unrest persists
Thailand kept its key interest rate unchanged today, pausing after a cut last month as the
central bank assessed the impact of the reduction and a political deadlock on the economy.
The Bank of Thailand held its one-day bond repurchase rate at 2%, with monetary policy
committee members voting six-to-one in favor of the decision, it said in Bangkok today.
Eighteen of 19 economists in a Bloomberg News survey predicted the outcome, with one
expecting a quarter percentage point cut. (Bloomberg)
