Aviation Scholarship Program
Call for Applications-Qualifications
We are pleased to announce the opening of the application window for our Aviation Scholarship Program. If you are
a wildlife professional in the state of Alaska trying to obtain your pilot certifications, additional ratings, pilot-in-
command (PIC) or dual- instructed flight hours, or other training (e.g. unusual attitude), we want to help!
Empowering more wildlife professionals to pursue aviation will lead to an increased ability to perform essential
population surveys, and monitoring eorts, as well as contributing to research projects annually. If you are an
individual working towards obtaining any aviation rating or certifications with the goal of flying surveys and
contributing to wildlife management or research programs, we invite you to apply for a scholarship!
Key details:
Scholarship amount: $5,000. One scholarship will be awarded to a qualified applicant in 2024 with an increased
number in 2025.
Application window: July 1- July 15, 2024; Scholarship awarded by August 1, 2024.
Eligibility criteria:
Currently working in the wildlife conservation field actively managing or researching wildlife populations in
Alaska or working towards a degree in wildlife conservation and management.
Priority will be given to tenured Alaska Department of Fish and Game sta with intentions of staying with
the Department and contributing to wildlife conservation eorts in the future
Priority will be given to current Alaska Wild Sheep Foundation members who meet all the above criteria
Priority will be given to wildlife professionals working with Dall sheep, mountain goats, and muskox (but is
not required)
Must be currently domiciled in Alaska and plan to remain in state

Applicant Selection Process: The Alaska Wild Sheep Foundation Board of Directors will determine the scholarship
winner(s). Applicants will be notified via email or phone regarding their award status. Scholarships will be sent
directly to the flight school, training center, fuel vendor or individual facilitating the program of that applicant’s
choosing. The scholarship winner will need to communicate this information to the flight school/training
center/etc. and the Alaska Wild Sheep Foundation will deposit funds accordingly.
What the Alaska Wild Sheep Foundation Asks for in Return: If you are awarded a scholarship, we ask for a short
paragraph about who you are and what you do, as well as a photo of you in the field for us to feature on our website
