setting the tone in the classroom. FSU has an expectation that
masks will be worn by all individuals in all FSU facilities. The
Instructor may request that students wear masks in the classroom
and state this expectation, but may not require them.

Student refuses to abide
by seating chart or
assigned seating
If the Instructor is utilizing a seating chart or assigning seats in
class, the Instructor may require that students sit in the seat to
which they are assigned or have chosen for the semester, unless
the student arranges with the Instructor for a seat change.

The Instructor should require that the student leave class
immediately and instruct the student to contact the SAFER team
to discuss compliance with any University or Florida Department
of Health isolation or quarantine orders. The Instructor should
then contact SAFER to report the incident. The Instructor should
be prepared to identify the student and any students or staff who
interacted closely with them.

Student is disruptive
during class
Instructors may ask that students leave class immediately when
they do not comply with directives and their behavior is disrupting
the learning process. Instructors should remind students that
behavior that does not meet standards can subject them to charges
under the Student Conduct Code. Instructors who have concerns
about disruptive student behavior should report that concerning
behavior at report.fsu.edu.

Student refuses to

directed to do so
If a student refuses to leave a class after being directed to do so by
the Instructor, the Instructor may end class in order to de-escalate
the situation. The faculty member should notify the appropriate
administrator and submit a report at report.fsu.edu.

the safety of students.
After ending the class, if the student’s behavior poses a risk to
the Instructor’s safety or the safety of that student or other
students, FSUPD may be notified for assistance.
