France-visas Application Tips
The online France-VFS application is the official application form that is required as part of your French
visa application materials. Historically, this was completed by hand; however, students can now
complete this application for the Long-stay Student Visa online and print a PDF copy to include when
they submit all of their application materials in person.
You will need to create a new account and open up a France-visas online application by clicking here
before you can schedule your appointment at the VFS center.
Please see some helpful tips below as you are completing the France-visas online application form. As
always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Grace with any questions! Better to be safe than sorry
First Section:
• For city of submission, please select the city that you wish to submit your French visa application
to at the VFS Center. The location on this application must match where you end up scheduling
your appointment, so please consider this carefully.
• For “visa type requested,” you should select “Long-stay”
• For “your plans,” you should select “study”
• For “main purpose of stay”, you should select “student”
Your Information:
• For “your profession,” please select “No profession”
Your Stay:
• Please use the program dates (unless you are planning to arrive early), and then select
“between 3 and 6 months”
Your Contacts:
• Please select “a company, organization, or establishment will be accommodating me” and then
include the BU Paris Contact Information as outlined in the screenshot below
• For the “Funding of travel costs” section, please select both “by the company, organization or
establishment hosting me” and select “Myself”
o I’ve attached a screenshot of which boxes you can check off for each.
• For the scholarship question, only complete it if you happen to be receiving a scholarship
affiliated with the French government
This is how your application should look once it’s complete! Make sure to save a PDF copy of the
application for your records, and now you can move forward with scheduling your appointment at the
VFS Global Center
