PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.

Provides professional social work services to families, individuals and/or juvenile offenders through the assessment of client
needs and the provision of social services; and performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
A master's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, marriage and family therapy or a related field.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
A bachelor's degree supplemented by one year of professional social work experience OR a bachelor's degree in social work and
successful completion of the Public Child Welfare Worker Certification Program will substitute for the master's degree.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):
If employed by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services or the Department of Juvenile Justice, an employee in this job
classification must furnish to the appointing authority within one month of employment, documentation that he/she possesses
a valid driver's license. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment
in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s),
certification(s) or other credentials.

Provides family or community based, preventive services including, but not limited to, child protection, adult protection,
guardianship services, juvenile services, adoption services and services to juvenile offenders. Provides services to patients in a
Behavioral Health/Developmental & Intellectual Disabilities facility and to children with special health care needs. Accepts
referrals, interviews clients and explains or interprets agency services. Provides information and referral when appropriate.
Makes home visits to assess and provide family based, guardianship or juvenile services. Investigates complaints of abuse/
neglect of children, spouses and/or adults and evaluates the need for protective services. Assesses, plans, coordinates, and
conducts training for foster parents, adoptive parents, family care operators and staff. Interviews clients and explains or
interprets agency/facility services. Recruits, studies, and makes recommendations concerning adoptive/foster home/family care
home applicants. Coordinates placement of children, juveniles and adults and provides post placement services to the family
and advocacy for the individual. Seeks, plans, and organizes local resources to publicize the foster care, family care and adoptive
home programs. As a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team, participates in the development of treatment plans and
discharge plans. Conducts individual and/or group counseling. Performs professional evaluation of client progress in relation to
treatment plan. Testifies at competency hearings. Investigates/verifies information, prepares court reports, provides expert
testimony at court hearings and/ or monitors conditions set by the court. Arranges for or provides transportation if unavailable
from any other source. Maintains current and confidential case records. Enters data in computer systems and maintains records.
Gathers and assesses information to determine if formal agency involvement is warranted and makes referrals to community
resources when there are identified needs, but formal agency involvement is not warranted.
UNIQUE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
May be required to physically restrain individuals.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbents in the job will typically perform their job duties under these conditions.
Performs job duties in an office/facility setting or residential program and visits clients and/or families at their residence.
Provides emergency services on 24-hour basis, including accepting referrals and completing investigations at any hour without
prior warning. As a result of enforced intervention, the worker runs the risk of physical harm.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Upon employment, employees in this job classification may be required to maintain a valid driver's license and may be required
to drive a licensed vehicle. This status may be necessary for the length of time in this job classification. If this is necessary, it will
be listed in the specific position description for the position at issue. Applicants and employees in this job classification may be
required to submit to a drug- screening test and background check. Applicants and employees in positions which perform job
duties that may require contact with offenders in the custody or supervision of the Department of Corrections or with youth in
the care, custody, or supervision of the Department of Juvenile Justice must meet qualifications pursuant to the federal Prison
Rape Elimination Act, 28 C.F.R.115.17 and 115.317.
