ACTION REQUEST
ACTION REQUEST: Approval of Academic Calendar for 2024-2025
The attached calendar for the academic year 2024-2025 differs from the models and principles
used for the past several years in calendar planning, but follows the model used for the 2020-21,
2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24 calendars. The calendar includes a pre-Labor Day start,
Monday, August 26, which provides a one-week break between the end of summer term and the
start of fall term. It also includes a fall break, October 14 - 15 and no classes on the day before
Thanksgiving, November 27. Classes will end on Monday, December 9, and exams will end on
Wednesday, December 18. The winter term will start on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
Juneteenth will be a day of symposia/no regular classes.
Holiday Issues
There are no conflicts with religious holidays contained in this calendar.
Spring Break
Application of the University’s principle of scheduling spring break in the eighth week of the
winter term has resulted in the University break running into the first week in March. The break
begins on Saturday, March 1, and classes resume on Monday, March 10.
Number of Class Days
Fall term has 70 class days; winter has 69 class days.
The proposed calendar has been vetted by faculty and administrative groups. I am writing to
request your approval of the 2024-2025 academic calendar.
